I love this post! Until now, I haven’t thought much about how my kitchen routine changed when my partner and I moved in together, and changed further when they transitioned from a vegetarian to a vegan diet. I’m an omnivore who grew up with homegrown herbs and vegetables from l’orto, homemade sausage and soppressata, and homemade mozzarella from our “mozzarella guy” down the street. We’re not a vegan household, but I’ve had to confront my utter distaste for “fake food”, and challenge myself to occasionally make vegan meals from scratch that both of us will enjoy and feel satisfied with.
I remember a few people asking me about vegan options in the cookbook and my immediate reaction was to say: no, it's impossible. Because Molisan cooking is very pork and cheese heavy. But then I realized that there are actually quite a few, because the full on meat meals were the ones for special occasions, and not what was consumed every day. So it's been cool becoming more aware of these vegetarian/vegan cucina povera recipes that are also a long part of our tradition! It's always interesting to see how different kitchen routines come together/clash. One thing that that my partner and I have had to face, too, is how often to get take out. He never had take out growing up, whereas my family had a little tradition where we got take out on Saturdays. He and I don't do it every week, but I know which take out he has a soft spot for now, so I can use it to my advantage hahaha
